The grading system that Used Grooves adheres to has been implemented
so record stores can sell accurately and safely to our customers online.
Here is the standard terminology, and how we classify the wear a record may show.
M (Mint) Absolutely perfect, never been played, possibly even still
sealed. Sleeve should show absolutely no wear, and may still be in shrink.
NM or M-(Near Mint) A nearly perfect record that may never haven
been played or possibly played once. The record should show no obvious signs of wear.
The cover should have no creases, folds, seam splits or other noticeable similar
defects.
VG+(Very Good Plus) A VG+ record will show some signs of wear and may
have slight scuffs or very light scratches that don't affect the listening experience.
The label may have some ring wear, and the sleeve may as well along with light seam splits
and fading. This quality is highly acceptable for all buyer except the mint collectors.
VG(Very Good) Many of the defects found in a VG+ record will be more
pronounced in a VG rating. Surface noise will be evident upon playing, but will not overpower
the music otherwise nor skip. Groove wear will start to be noticeable, as with light scratches.
Covers may have moderate ring or edge wear, cut-outs / hole punches, or moderate seam splits.
However, it will not have all of these problems at the same time, only two or three of them.
G+(Good Plus)G (Good)- Good does not mean bad. A record in G or G+ condition
can be played through without skipping. But it will have significant surface noise and scratches
and visible groove wear. The cover or sleeve will have seam splits, especially at the bottom or
on the spine. Tape, writing, ring wear or other defects will start to collect.
P(Poor),F(Fair) The record is cracked, badly warped, and/or won't
play through without skipping or repeating. The LP cover barely keeps the LP inside it with various
seam splits. Inner sleeves are fully seam split, crinkled, and written upon.
